Google, formerly BackRub is launched by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as a search engine in January 1996. Why did Google named themselves as a search engine?

There was no term about search engine before the 1990s. Web pages are listed in the directories for outreaching information for business. In 1990, Archie started search engine which was an FTP site hosting that index of downloadable directory listings. Archie and other directories were still acting as primitive directory listings despite search engine until Google launched in 1996.

Google launched in 1996

Google, formerly BackRub is launched by Larry Page and Sergey Brin as a search engine in January 1996. Why did Google name themselves as a search engine? Because it developed crawling and indexing process for web pages, eventually Google originated algorithms to optimize relevancy to the search results. Its uniqueness and innovative tasks made it one of the popular and influential search engine of all time. One of uniqueness was the ranking of web pages in the search engine and gave them authority by judging based on various factors.

Noted that back in 1994, Yahoo was created by David Filo and Jerry Yang, began collection of favorite web pages and listed them in their directory for free. Yahoo didn’t work as a search engine until 2002. They were still working as the directory listing. Later, many search engines came into focus which is now a big platform in the world, for instances, Ask, MSN, LiveSearch and Bing in 1997, 1998, 2006 and 2009 respectively.

Meanwhile, back in the 90s, people were familiar with World Wide Web (WWW), invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. They started making a website and realized they could make money. Therefore, people felt they needed traffic to visit their website to gain anything. And that was the transitional period for requiring search engine optimization (SEO) and Google did well. That’s what, Google is the biggest and phenomenal. Thus, the practice of SEO was born.

Search Engine Optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Optimization i.e. SEO is the process of improving the visibility of a web page in search engines naturally or organically. This is the free program, not paid. Websites visibility are segmented into two major parts in this modern marketing standpoint. One is paid and another is organic. And the organic process is search engine optimization.

Types of SEO

Based on organic SEO, it’s been categorized into two major types. On Page SEO and Off Page SEO.

  • On-page SEO is the process of performing tasks into the inside of the website. It makes sure Google can find your website online easily and presents your website into search engine result page (SERP) and ensures it has relevant, detailed information and helpful content to the surfer who searched with a query. This is the foremost and primary step to implement SEO on a website.

Types of SEO

  • Off-Page SEO is the process of doing jobs outside of your website. The process is to get quality and relevant link back from other websites into yours. That’s what it is also called backlink or link building. It wants other websites to talk about your web page into Google and its authority in their industry how influential they are. This has many benefits. It helps to boost web pages in search engine after executing on-page SEO and drives tons of traffic from other websites.

This is just a brief overview of SEO. I will explain in the upcoming content. Keep in mind everything is depending on search queries. So keyword research is the foundation of search engine optimization. Thus, Google initiates lots of algorithms to provide a better user experience i.e. better results and becomes the largest search engine worldwide.
